National News: A heart-wrenching incident shook the entire city on 5 June 2025 in the Alambagh police station area of ​​Lucknow. A 3-year-old differently-abled girl was sexually assaulted near Chandan Nagar Metro Station. The accused, Deepak Verma, who committed this heinous crime, was found by the police in less than 24 hours. An encounter took place between the police and the accused on Devikheda Road near the Cantt-Alambag border late on Thursday night, in which Deepak Verma was shot and died in the hospital.

This heinous crime was committed near Chandan Nagar Metro Station in Alambagh on the evening of 5 June. Due to the critical condition of the innocent girl, she was immediately taken to Lokbandhu Hospital, from where she was referred to PGI. Currently the girl is undergoing treatment, and doctors have described her condition as critical. This incident created outrage among the local people and the girl's family, who demanded strict action from the police.

Quick action by police

As soon as the incident was reported, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Central Ashish Kumar Srivastava ordered immediate action. The police formed five special teams, which reached the accused with the help of CCTV footage and local sources. A reward of ₹1 lakh was announced for information leading to the arrest of Deepak Verma. With the promptness of the police and the use of technical resources, the accused's whereabouts were quickly traced.

Encounter and death of the accused

Late Thursday night, the crime team of DCP Central and Alambagh police stations surrounded Deepak Verma on Devikheda Road. According to the police, when an attempt was made to stop him, he started firing at the police. In self-defense, the police retaliated, in which Deepak Verma was seriously injured. He was rushed to the hospital immediately, but the doctors pronounced him dead.

Statement of the DCP

DCP Ashish Srivastava said, "A case was registered against the accused under relevant sections. Our teams were searching for him for 24 hours. During the encounter, the police had to open fire in self-defense." He appealed to the public to maintain peace and assured them that the matter would be thoroughly investigated.
